Herb plants are available as annuals, biennials, and perennials the same as may other plants. There are many different types of herbs, with each one having its own unique qualities. It is necessary to perform a little research to understand the qualities and needs of a specific type of herb. Different Types of Herb Garden Plants

Frost can prove to be fatal for many Annual herbs like Cilantro, Basil, and Summer Savory. These herbs need to be planted every year from a seed or small plant. However, the soil needs to be worked upon by giving it a fine texture and spraying the required amount of water to wet it. The seeds have to be planted in shallow rows by putting the soil on top of them. Planting the seeds in a mixture of soil and sand will allow them to spread in a more even manner. The soil bed can also be covered with paper or wet burlap that provides sufficient moisture during the germination process.

Uses of Herbs

These herbs have been grouped into different categories based on their usage. The Culinary herbs are extremely useful to those planting them in the herb gardens. They have maximum use in cooking activities. Herbs like Chives, Sage, Savory, Marjoram, Thyme, and Basil have strong flavor that is important for the cooking process. Just a small quantity of some of these herbs is good enough to provide strong flavors to food. Parsley is mainly used as garnish. There are certain Aromatic herbs that are filled with pleasant smelling foliage or flowers. The oils produced by Aromatic herb garden plants like Mint, Rosemary, and Loyage are mainly used for creation of various scents, perfumes, and toilet water. Certain portions of these Aromatic plants can be used in the home to provide a pleasant smell to linens or clothing. The creation of potpourri from these aromatic herbs can help preserve the smell for a longer period. Both Lemon and Lavender are excellent herbs for use in potpourri.

Some herbs can provide great medicinal benefits. They have the ability to cure the body from various diseases. However, the herbs beneficial for medical usage should be handled with care since some of them are useful whereas the rest are dangerous when consumed directly. Certain herbs are used merely for their beauty. Ornamental herbs have bright colored foliage and flowers that can be used to decorate the household or other places. Valerian has crimson blossoms whereas Chicory has gorgeous blue flowers. There are herb garden plants that can be used for cooking, pest control, and tea creation as well.
